phpFreeChat is a free, simple to install, fast, customizable and multi languages chat that uses a simple filesystem for message and nickname storage. It uses AJAX to smoothly refresh (no flicker) and display the chat zone and the nickname zone. It supports multi-rooms (/join), private messages, moderation (/kick, /ban), customized themes based on CSS and plugins systems that allows you to write your own storage routines (ex: Mysql, IRC backends …), and your own chat commands!

Insufficient Resources to make it work
After spending the better part of 24 hours trying to get it to work, checking the phpfreechat.net website for documentation, and seeing a lot of frustrated users it's not a good piece of add-on! I've dumped it from my site and am looking for something with REAL documentation rather than a link to a message board!

I have ised this for my church web site and it is very easy to use. you just need to know how to use the switchs
A good chat for spammers.
There is nothing to prevent anyone from using it. It needs a means to incorporate usernames and passwords so your family and friends do not get spammed with obsenity while chatting.
