How to deal with Spam a note
We have been helping people setup PHPBB forums for years now. Yes they used to get spammed. And the PHPBB team implemented some really cool stuff to take care of it. Here is what we suggest to our members at 3Computing.com 1. Install the modules for spam bot protection 2. Make sure captcha is enabled 3. Activate the feature that disallows posting more than once within 2 minutes (or higher minutes for low traffic ). 4. Install Email crawler bot protection 5. only allow registration through email approval. There is a new CAPTCHA that checks randomly when posting if you are human or robot. Cheers!
PHBB3 Supreme
Love this Platform, I have used it for over 4 years for several applications. Spam can be reduced to nil with simple Capture plug-ins. Have not had a problem with spam for yonks! The best forum application out there. Great flexibility and extensive management through the intuitive admin panel. Love it!
PhPBB is a Spam magnet
This is the third time I have installed this app. I really like PhPBB. It is a great package. unfortunately there is a high spam gardening overhead. This is a package you cannot leave and forget about if you do you'll come back and find 400 chinese and russian spam messages in your BB I thought that aspect would improve over time but it hasn't I have once again deleted the app and will be using another package in the future.
I was tired of getting spammed
This application needs to ship with some spambot protection. The Captiva system was ineffective.
Well known forum system, by both users and spambots that drop hundreds of posts each day.
My experience with phpBB was negative. Within a day, I had spam bots dumping porn ads and other inappropriate content into my forums. The admin control panel has a purge option, but for some reason, it does not work. If you have the resources to keep on top of the massive amount of misuse, phpBB has all the power you could ever want in a forum. However, if it's just you administrating the entire forum, no matter its size, will consume 110% of your time.
