Total Waste Of Time!
Definitely not ready to use as it comes installed. Admin tools are non-existent. Nothing turn-key about this application whatsoever. Program is incredibly confusing & certainly not for a novice user. You get what you pay for with this one .... 0

Do it.
Used osCommerce on multiple sites; great community with plugins for every situation: Google oscommerce, go to oscomm website, see 'contributions' section - oscommerce is able to be tailored to many situations.

I've been actively using computers for many years and as technical support for my last 3 jobs.

My areas of knowledge do not include such things as php and java but after exploring the forum for this product and trying to do basic configuration I conclude that this is for the individual that likes a real challenge.

This is in no way simple or intuitive, nor ready to use as it comes installed.

osCommerce
I was amazed at how easy this shopping cart was to implement and customize. I was a complete novice when I first installed it and now I am able to manipulate the application to look just the way I want it. The more I learn, the more I realize my site doesn't have to be cookie-cutterish.

This is definitely a good starting point for those who cannot afford a huge monthly hosting package for a storefront-ready site. And with osCommerce having so many contributions available to further customize a store, honestly, one could install osCommerce and stay with it for a long time.

(I have tried both Homestead and Miva Merchant prior to osCommerce. They were simple enough but I feel I have more control with osCommerce and the price certainly doesn't hurt.)
