Buggy and tempermental
I've only added two products and suddenly they just don't appear when clicked upon. I searched the forum and discovered that this happens occasionally with Zen cart. A shopping cart that has difficulty displaying products?! No thanks!
..Constant Vigilance !
This one shook me a little when I first installed it, and the postal extension gave me a headache or two. HOWEVER I am happy that I continued with it as it has turned out to be a great app. Thankfully there is a lot of support out there for ZenCart and I was never stuck on an issue for to long as a quick search on the net usually turned up the right response. Lots of nice templates available also. Works Seamlessly with paypal and is flexible with international currency. Stick with it, you'll love it.
Lots of trial and error
I love zencart now but not at first. It took a long time, about a week, to get it up and running. That's because you rely on the tutorials for answers, hoping they thought of your specific issue. I found the forums unorganized and scrolled through months of threads before finding a related issue sometimes. Once I got the hang of it, it was a matter of plugging in my site info. I still have a hard time with the aesthetics/appearance of the site. But it is low maintenance.
Too bare bones - poor module interaction
One shouldn't have to add basic shipping and payment modules and often have to tweak code to get them to work. The last straw was when I installed the FedEx shipping module and it wiped out the static url module. One should not have to install any of these features, they should have been built in. So now I am trying Magento, which already has static urls and all of the shipping and payment modules installed.
The Best
Zencart was very easy to use --- any thing i could not figure out - I went to site support from admin page clicked tutorial/faq -- type my question - and got the answer
