Did not work properly when installed in a subdomain
The front page worked and the admin, but any other page didn't exist, even after I set up categories, users, etc. Trying a new install now.

Hacked
Bare bones site for managing files for multiple users, but it is very vulnerable to hacks. Hackers loaded a backdoor shell onto the site and tried to use it for a phishing scam. Though there are controls that allow you to limit guest uploads, the alerts are sent after the fact.

Works
PHP 5 is required. If your hosting shows that it is using PHP 5 but you get errors similar to: "Cannot use a scalar value as an array" your host .htaccess file needs to be updated to use PHP 5. Add these lines to your .htaccess file: AddHandler x-httpd-php5 .php AddHandler x-httpd-php .php4 More details can be found here: http://www.ardamis.com/2009/07/25/upgrading-godaddy-hosting-to-php-5-x-from-php-4-3-11/ Thanks ardamis. You can change the upload file size by changing your php configuration. It is not a limitation of PHCDownload. So far the program works great. Multi user, multi group, rating system, comment system and mass file add make this thing quick and easy to setup. If you have a bunch of files to upload use FTP and then use the mass file add option. The developer site was sort of down so there is no forum access or good documentation.

Was Hacked
My site was hacked by a buffer overflow attack that replaced my main page with a hacked version. The attack came through the guest file upload functionality. The other main reason this application is not worth installing is because the file size is limited to just 8 MB.

Not Bad (Functionality I needed works)
Simple File Download with Proper User Access Control. Categories and Group allows me to seperate different groups of users. Upload limit of 8MB,(based on php hosting provider's limit) an alternative instead of sending documentations via Email with limited send and receive size.
